LAHORE: A fine all-round performance by Hamza Nazir kept defending champions Sialkot in the hunt for a place in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final. Sialkot ended day two at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium leading 20-time champions Karachi by 168 runs with three second-innings wickets in hand.

Hamza returned impressive figures of 14-2-49-5 as Karachi, resuming at 144 for three in reply to Sialkot’s 176, were dismissed for 225. Shan Masood, who began the day on 60, top-scored with 70.

Sialkot, trailing by 49 on the first innings, were wobbling at 145 for seven before Hamza rescued them with a gritty unbeaten 59. He guided Sialkot to 217 for seven at stumps — an overall lead of 168 runs. His 70-ball innings had eight fours and featured an unbroken 72-run stand with Afzaal Manzoor (23 not out).

For Karachi, Kashif Bhatti followed up his four for 67 in the first innings with three for 54, while Mohammad Asghar took two for 71.

AHMED SAFI PUTS FAISALABAD ON TOP OF BAHAWALPUR

Ahmed Safi Abdullah’s outstanding 31-17-36-5put Faisalabad firmly ahead of Bahawalpur at the Marghzar Cricket Ground, giving his team a valuable 124-run first innings lead.

Faisalabad resumed on 305 for nine and were quickly dismissed for 312, but Ahmed Safi combined with Hasan Raza (3–53) and Khurram Shahzad (2–33) to bowl Bahawalpur out for 188.

Mohammad Ammar top-scored with 66, while Mohammad Imran Randhawa contributed 27 and both Saifullah Bangash and Mohammad Alamgir added 26.

Faisalabad, tied on 132 points with Peshawar heading into this round, must maximise points and await the Sialkot–Karachi result to know their fate. Bahawalpur, eighth on the table, must avoid slipping below that position to escape relegation.

ROHAIL’S DOUBLE CENTURY ENDS PESHAWAR’S FINAL HOPES

A career-best double century by Rohail Nazir ended Peshawar’s chances of reaching the final as Islamabad piled up 563 for nine declared at the Diamond Cricket Ground. Peshawar crashed to 81 for four by stumps, still 482 runs behind.

Rohail, who resumed on 113, crafted a superb 207 off 269 balls with 26 fours and six sixes, batting just over six hours. He added 181 for the sixth wicket with Arsal Sheikh (91).

Sajid Khan took three for 112 and Mohammad Irfan claimed three for 125 for Peshawar.

Naqeebullah then reduced Peshawar to 81 for four with a fiery three for 32, extinguishing their last mathematical shot at the final.

SALMAN’S CENTURY GIVES FATA FIRST INNINGS LEAD

Salman Khan Junior’s fourth career century helped FATA secure a 34-run first innings lead over Lahore at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium.

Resuming on 86 for three, FATA were bowled out for 239. Salman, who began the day on 34, played a composed 104 from 149 balls with 13 fours and two sixes. He featured in stands of 62 with Mohammad Sarwar Afridi (46) and a further 90 with the lower order.

Noman Ali returned figures of 23-5-52-5 for Lahore, while Aamir Jamal took 2–38.

Lahore reached 144 for four at stumps, leading by 110 runs with six wickets remaining. Ali Zaryab (54) and Imran Dogar (44) led the reply. Asif Afridi took all four wickets for 49 runs.

Both sides are mid-table and neither in contention for the final nor in danger of relegation.

MULTAN SEAL ABBOTTABAD’S FATE, KEEP FAINT HOPES ALIVE

Multan produced another dominant performance to all but secure their survival while consigning Abbottabad to relegation at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

After declaring at a massive 542 for eight, Multan skittled Abbottabad for 159. Following on 375 runs behind, Abbottabad closed at eight without loss.

Ali Usman delivered another superb bowling display, registering figures of 20-5-65-6, with Faisal Akram supporting with 3–37. Mohammad Arif top-scored with 61 for Abbottabad.

Earlier, Multan added 182 to their overnight 360 for five thanks to Zeeshan Ashraf’s 94, Aamir Yamin’s 75, and a 78-run stand for the seventh wicket between the pair. Mansoor Ali took 4–133 for Abbottabad.

Abbottabad, already bottom of the table, became the first side officially demoted for next season.
