Ahmed Daniyal And Saad Masood Lead Shaheens To Acc Rising Stars Title
LAHORE: Fast bowler Ahmed Daniyal bowled an excellent final over and then returned to deliver another outstanding over in the Super Over as Pakistan Shaheens defeated Bangladesh A in the final of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 in Doha on Saturday.
Ahmed claimed both wickets on the second and fourth deliveries to leave Bangladesh’s batters with a six-run victory target in the Super Over. Saad Masood completed the task when he hit a boundary on the third delivery and then took the winning single, bringing a sigh of relief to the faces of his teammates and supporters.
Ahmed and Saad combined in the Super Over after Pakistan had almost made a mess of the final after reducing Bangladesh to 53 for seven in 10.3 overs while defending 125. Bangladesh continued to look down and out when they stuttered to 99 for nine after 18 overs and required 27 for an unlikely victory off the final 12 balls.
However, Shahid Aziz was struck for three sixes and ended by conceding 20 runs in the 19th over to leave Bangladesh requiring seven runs off the last over. Although Ahmed failed to separate the last pair in that final over, he gave away six runs — including leg byes off the penultimate and final deliveries — to force a Super Over.
Earlier in the match and well before Saad Masood scored the winning runs in the Super Over, he had rescued Pakistan from complete embarrassment after Bangladesh had decided to bowl first.
After Pakistan slipped to 75 for six, Saad top-scored with 38 from 26 balls (three fours, three sixes) to allow Pakistan to reach 125. Arafat Minhas (25) and Maaz Sadaqat (23) were the other notable run-scorers, as no other batter reached double-figures.
In Bangladesh’s run chase, Sufiyam Muqeem took three for 11, and Arafat Minhas and Ahmed Daniyal bagged two wickets apiece as opener Habibur Rehman Sohan scored 26 and No. 9 batter Rakibul Hasan scored 24.
Saad Masood was rightly adjudged Player of the Final, while Maaz Sadaqat was adjudged Player of the Tournament.
