No. 3 batter Abdul Qadir scored a punishing century as Pakistan U19 defeated England U19 by 122 runs in the second 50-over match in Guildford on Saturday.

Qadir scored 146 from 100 balls with 11 fours and 12 sixes to lift Pakistan U19 to 308 all out in 49.2 overs after they had reached 173 for three at the halfway stage. England U19, in reply, never recovered after slipping to 76 for five in the 18th over and were bowled out for 186 in 37.1 overs.

Qadir reached his half-century from 46 balls with five fours and three sixes, before completing his century from 80 balls with eight fours and eight sixes. His final 46 runs came from just 20 balls and included three fours and four sixes.

Pakistan U19 were in a spot of bother at 97 for three before Qadir and Ahmed Hussain (28) added 101 runs for the fourth wicket. After Qadir departed with the score on 244 for six in the 34th over, wicketkeeper/batter Hamza Zahoor held the lower order together with a 55 from 49 balls, including seven fours and two sixes.

For England U19, Lancashire pair George Harris and Luke Hands, and Glamorgan’s Tom Edwards took three wickets apiece, conceding 42, 59 and 66 runs respectively.

In their run-chase, England U19 struggled against Pakistan U19’s fine bowling, led by fast bowler Mohammad Sayyam, who finished with three for 56. He was well supported by Rizwanullah, who took three for 32, while Ahmed Hussain claimed two for 16 and Niqab Shafiq finished with two for 37.

For the home side, Durham’s Robbie Bowman was the lone warrior, scoring 67 from 43 balls with four fours and seven sixes.

Pakistan had won the first 50-over match by 177 runs on 9 September. Usman Khan, who scored 151, and Farhan Yousaf, who scored 115, were rested for the second match. The third 50-over match will be played on Monday.
