LAHORE: Karachi Whites beat Bahawalpur by 12 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) Method and Lahore Whites defeated Faisalabad by six wickets in two rain-affected National T20 Cup Group A matches at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar on Monday.

Chasing 186 for victory against Bahawalpur, Karachi Whites were 78 for no loss in nine overs when rain intervened and prevented any further play. Saim Ayub of Karachi Whites stole the honours when he followed up his two for 43 with a 35-ball 53 not out that included seven fours and two sixes.

Bahawalpur’s innings was dominated by middle-order batter Mohammad Imran, who struck one four and five sixes in a 35-ball 59. Openers Mohammad Faizan Zafar (49, 33b, 5 x 4, 2 x 6) and Mohammad Akram (25, 19b, 5 x 4) were the other main run-scorers.

Later, under lights, Faisalabad set Lahore Whites a 107-run target in 10 overs. Lahore Whites openers Mohammad Akhlaq (48, 28b, 8 x 4, 1 x 6) and Mohammad Faiq (32, 13b, 2 x 4, 3 x 6) set the platform for their side to achieve victory for the loss of four wickets in 9.4 overs.

Faisalabad’s innings was interrupted twice, which affected their momentum. The first interruption came when Faisalabad, after electing to bat first, were 42 for three in 4.1 overs. When play resumed and the match was curtailed to 13-overs-a-side, Faisalabad reached 105 for seven in 9.5 overs when play stopped for the second time.

Faisalabad returned to face just one final ball as the innings was further reduced to 10-overs-a-side, giving Lahore Whites a revised 108-run target. Mubasir Khan provided late impetus to the Faisalabad innings, scoring a 10-ball 26 with one four and three sixes. Opener Mohammad Faizan scored 21 from 11 balls with one four and two sixes.

For Lahore Whites, Ahmed Daniyal claimed three wickets for 17 runs, while Ubaid Shah finished with two for 25.
