LAHORE: Faisalabad’s 19-year-old opener Faham ul Haq, fast bowlers Mohammad Hasnain of Sialkot, Shahnawaz Dahani of Abbottabad, Akif Javed of FATA, and Hunain Shah of Islamabad dominated the second day’s play in the fifth-round Quaid-e-Azam Trophy matches that also saw the Karachi versus Bahawalpur and Lahore versus Multan games evenly poised.

Faham notched up his maiden first-class century in his eighth match when he scored 137 to help Faisalabad finish at 309 for seven in reply to Peshawar’s 320 at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium. His 264-ball innings included 17 fours. He featured in a 66-run opening stand with Sardar Hasan Raza (40) and a 55-run second-wicket partnership with Asim Ali Nasir (38).

KARACHI V BAHAWALPUR

After 15 wickets fell on the opening day, another 16 tumbled on the second day at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium between Karachi and Bahawalpur.

After Karachi were dismissed for 217 in their first innings, Bahawalpur, resuming at 55 for five, were bowled out for 115, with Saqib Khan claiming four for 42. With a 96-run first-innings lead, Karachi managed only 110 in their second innings — thanks to Omair Bin Yousuf’s 76. Gulfam Aziz (3-27), Mohammad Azab (2-29) and Imran Randhawa (2-38) kept Bahawalpur in the match.

Chasing 207 for victory, Bahawalpur finished the day at 35 for one, requiring another 172 runs.

SIALKOT V ABBOTTABAD

Mohammad Hasnain outshined Shahnawaz Dahani in a battle of fast bowlers to put Sialkot in sight of a comprehensive victory against Abbottabad at the Diamond Cricket Ground.

After Shahnawaz claimed five for 86 and, in partnership with Israr Hussain (4-117), succeeded in dismissing Sialkot for 385 after they had resumed their innings at 322, Hasnain returned with figures of five for 22 to bundle out Abbottabad for a paltry 92. Hassan Ali (3-14) and Mohammad Ali (2-27) were the other wicket-takers.

Forced to follow-on after being 293 runs behind on the first innings, Abbottabad finished the day at 37 for one.

LAHORE V MULTAN

Lahore had their noses ahead of Multan when stumps were drawn at the Marghzar Cricket Ground.

Resuming their first innings at 121 for four in reply to Multan’s 164 all-out, Lahore were dismissed for 283, with Qasim Akram finishing as the top-scorer with 61 and useful contributions coming from fast bowlers Aamir Jamal (45) and Mohammad Abbas (22). Multan’s Mohammad Ismail was the pick of the bowlers with three for 85.

Trailing by 119 runs on the first innings, Multan were 122 for three at the close of play with Imran Butt batting on 38 and opener Waqar Hussain dismissed after scoring 49.

ISLAMABAD V FATA

Rohail Nazir completed a well-deserved century and Sarmad Bhatti remained unbeaten on 150 as Islamabad, starting the day at 326 for four, were bowled out for 432 at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. Rohail, who was 96 overnight, added five more runs to reach a 157-ball 101 with 16 fours.

Sarmad Bhatti, who was 107 when play ended on Thursday, returned unconquered on 150 from 253 balls with 28 fours. The two batters put on 232 runs for the fifth wicket. For FATA, Akif Javed was the most impressive bowler with four for 121 from 23 overs, while Arshadullah grabbed three for 119.

FATA were 213 for seven when play ended after Hunain Shah captured four for 69 and Mohammad Musa Khan picked up two for 44. Rehan Afridi was holding the innings together for FATA, batting on 71 with 11 fours and two sixes.
