10-Wicket Hauls By Tahir and Momin
LAHORE: In another low-scoring President’s Trophy Grade-II Gold match, PHA Rawalpindi defeated JDW by 133 runs inside two days at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar on Wednesday.
A total of 163 overs were sufficient to produce a result. PHA Rawalpindi scored 167 and 201 in a combined 97.1 overs across both innings, while JDW replied with 73 and 162.
The match belonged to two teenagers. PHA Rawalpindi’s 19-year-odl Mohammad Tahir and JDW’s 19-year-old left-arm spinner Momin Qamar each claimed ten-wicket match hauls — though it was Tahir who ultimately held the upper hand.
Momin was the busier of the two, returning figures of 17.2-0-57-8 in PHA Rawalpindi’s first innings and 15-1-63-3 in the second, to finish with match figures of 32.2-1-120-11.
Impressive as those figures were, Tahir was more devastating in the conditions. He took 13-5-27-5 as JDW were skittled for 73 in their first innings, before returning 11-1-29-6 in the second to finish with match figures of 24-6-56-11 — a remarkable display from a teenager on his home ground.
In bowler-friendly conditions, JDW’s Pakistan under-19 captain Farhan Yousaf stood head and shoulders above all batters. He scored 34 in the first innings and followed up with a fighting 83 in the second — a performance that will have done his prospects no harm despite his side’s defeat. Sameer Minhas, by contrast, had a match to forget, registering a pair.
This was JDW’s third defeat in five matches. Their sixth and final league match is against Railways at the National Cricket Ground in Islamabad from 13 to 15 June.
