LAHORE: Second-placed Karachi defeated defending champions Sialkot by three wickets to qualify for the five-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final, which will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium from 29 November.

Karachi’s opponent in the final will be confirmed on Wednesday after the conclusion of the Faisalabad–Bahawalpur match. Faisalabad, currently third on the points table, need 24 points to finish second after nine league matches. When play resumes on Wednesday, Faisalabad will require eight wickets, while Bahawalpur will need a further 186 runs to deny Sialkot a place in the final.

KASHIF & SHAN STAR FOR KARACHI

Kashif Bhatti returned match figures of nine for 139 and Shan Masood struck two valuable half-centuries as the 20-time former champions and wild card entrants Karachi defeated Sialkot by three wickets at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium.

Kashif followed up his four for 67 with five for 72 as Sialkot — trailing Karachi by 49 runs and resuming the morning at 217 for seven — were dismissed for 260. Hamza Nazir top-scored with 66, while Afzaal Manzoor remained unbeaten on 48.

Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood led Karachi’s pursuit of the 212-run target and a place in the final with an excellent 86 (112b, 3×4, 3×6). He added 133 for the second wicket with Saad Baig, who made 68 (96b, 5×4, 3×6).

Sialkot’s Mehran Mumtaz was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with four for 40.

Karachi, with 161 points, topped the table after nine league matches, while Sialkot finished with 155. Faisalabad and Peshawar remain joint third on 132 points, with their matches still in progress.

BAHAWALPUR’S JUNAID TAKES 7-58 AGAINST FAISALABAD

Bahawalpur’s Mohammad Junaid returned outstanding figures of 21-4-58-7 to give his side an outside chance of upsetting Faisalabad — who require 24 points to qualify for the final.

Junaid’s efforts meant Faisalabad, who secured a 124-run first-innings lead, were bowled out for 185 in their second innings, with opener Hasan Raza top-scoring with 48.

Chasing 310 for victory, Bahawalpur ended the day strongly at 124 for two, with openers Mohammad Alamgir (69, 86b, 8×4, 4×6) and Mohammad Sudais (53, 69b, 7×4, 1×6) putting on 113 for the first wicket.

PESHAWAR FACES INNINGS DEFEAT AGAINST ISLAMABAD

Peshawar, who began the final round joint third with Faisalabad, are staring at an innings defeat against Islamabad at the Diamond Cricket Ground.

After Islamabad amassed 563 on Monday, Peshawar resumed their first innings at 81 for four and were bowled out for 231. Trailing by 232 and forced to follow on, Peshawar closed the third day at 183 for two.

Islamabad’s Musa Khan wreaked havoc in the first innings with figures of 18-4-79-5, while Naqeebullah finished with three for 58.

Peshawar’s much-improved second innings was led by opener Razaullah, who scored a brilliant 100 off 95 balls (10×4, 5×6). He added 105 for the second wicket with Waqar Ahmed (63 not out).

ABBOTTABAD RELEGATED AFTER ALI USMAN’S 10-WICKET MATCH HAUL

Abbottabad were relegated after losing their last league match to Multan by an innings and 201 runs. In contrast, the victory allowed Multan to avoid relegation and retain their first-class status for next season.

After Multan declared at 542 for eight, Abbottabad were dismissed for 159 on Tuesday. Beginning their second innings on Wednesday needing 354 to make Multan bat again, they managed only 182, with Shahzaib Khan scoring 61 and Ahmed Khan 51.

For Multan, Ali Usman followed up his six for 65 with four for 92, giving him match figures of 10 for 157.

LAHORE BEATS FATA BY 33 RUNS AFTER ABBAS’S 5-31

In a mid-table clash, Lahore defeated FATA by 33 runs.

After securing a 34-run first-innings lead, Lahore resumed their second innings at 144 for four and were bowled out for 208, with Ali Zaryab top-scoring with 54 and Imran Dogar contributing 44. For FATA, Asif Afridi claimed five for 67.

Chasing 175, FATA were bowled out for 141, with Rehan Afridi scoring 45. Test fast bowler Mohammad Abbas took five for 31 and Mohammad Rameez Junior three for 20.

After nine rounds, Lahore finished fifth on 121 points, while FATA ended sixth on 107.
