LAHORE: Fast bowler Shahid Aziz recorded his second five-wicket haul against 20-time champions Karachi to hand FATA a thumping 184-run victory on the fourth and final day of their third-round Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. This was FATA’s first win and Karachi’s first loss of the season.

Shahid followed up his first-innings figures of 16.2-2-45-5 with 14.1-7-33-5 for career-best match figures of 30.3-9-78-10. In 14 first-class matches, this was the second time the lanky 23-year-old Multan Sultans fast bowler had taken 10 wickets in a match. In the PSL 2025, Shahid featured in three matches for Multan Sultans, claiming five wickets at an economy rate of 8.6.

It was Shahid’s brilliance that saw Karachi being bundled out for 111, after resuming on Tuesday morning at 67 for four in pursuit of a 296-run target. Their innings lasted just 15.1 overs on the final day.

No. 7 batter Usman Raheem top-scored with 23, while JDW’s Haroon Arshad was the only other Karachi batter to cross 20. Shahid was well assisted by Sameen Gul, who claimed two wickets for 33 runs.

FATA will take on Faisalabad in their next fixture on Friday at the Marghzar Cricket Ground, while Karachi will travel to Abbottabad to meet traditional rivals Lahore.

MOHAMMAD ALI BOWLS SIALKOT TO VICTORY

Fast bowler Mohammad Ali returned figures of 10.5-3-24-5 to bowl Sialkot to a comprehensive 284 runs victory over Lahore. Lahore, resuming the final morning at 18 for one after being set a 390-run victory target, were dismissed for 105.

Ali, who had taken two for 64 in the first innings, was well supported by Athar Mahmood, who took three for 23 after claiming three for 47 earlier.

For Lahore, who had earned a 13-run first-innings lead, only Junaid Ali managed to cross 20, scoring 23.

While Lahore will face Karachi in Abbottabad in the next round, Sialkot will meet Islamabad at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium.

ASIM’S MAIDEN TON IN VAIN AS MULTAN WIN

A maiden first-class century by Faisalabad’s Asim Ali Nasir was not enough to prevent Multan from registering a 10-wicket victory at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Asim had started the day on 85 and was dismissed after scoring 114, an innings that came off 249 balls and included 16 fours and two sixes.

Together with Ali Shan (77 not out off 221 balls, 10 fours), Asim added 72 runs for the sixth wicket as Faisalabad — starting the day at 223 for five and trailing by 339 runs on the first innings — were dismissed for 373.

Multan’s Mohammad Shan took three for 104, while Ali Usman and Aamer Yameen shared four wickets between them.

Multan raced to the 34-run victory target without loss in 6.5 overs and will now take on Bahawalpur at the Diamond Cricket Ground. Faisalabad will face FATA in their fourth-round match at the Marghzar Cricket Ground.

SPINNER KHALID OUTSHINES BATTER SARMAD

Sarmad Bhatti led Islamabad’s spirited challenge against Abbottabad before the federal capital side fell 70 runs short of a 524-run target at the Marghzar Cricket Ground. Islamabad had resumed their chase on the final morning at 234 for two and were bowled out for 453.

Sarmad scored an impressive 109 – his 11th century in 81 matches – off 201 balls with 13 fours. He added 129 runs for the seventh wicket with Jawad Ali, who scored 61 from 114 balls with eight fours and two sixes. The pair came together after Islamabad had slipped to 279 for six following the dismissals of overnight batters Raja Hamza Waheed and Hammad Khan, as well as Faizan Riaz (19) and Rizwan Ali (0). Waheed, who started the day on 112, was dismissed for 117, while Hammad failed to add to his overnight 27.

For Abbottabad, left-arm spinner Khalid Usman returned impressive figures of 39.1-7-115-5, while Israr Hussain and Mohammad Adil shared two wickets apiece, conceding 82 and 123 runs, respectively.

Islamabad will now host Sialkot at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, while Abbottabad will travel to Peshawar to meet the hosts. Both matches will commence on Friday.
