LAHORE: FATA fast bowler Shahid Aziz produced impressive figures to earn his side a 105-run first-innings lead over 20-time Quaid-e-Azam Trophy winners Karachi on the second day at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium.

Shahid returned figures of 16.2-2-45-5 as Karachi, resuming their first innings at 0-0 in reply to FATA’s 312, were bundled out for 207 in 68.2 overs. Shahid was well supported by Arshadullah and Zahid Mehmood, who claimed two wickets apiece for 41 and 51 runs, respectively.

Opener Abdullah Fazal (67, 94b, 11×4), Haroon Arshad (42, 104b, 5×4) and Danish Aziz (37 not out, 4×4) were the cornerstones of Karachi’s modest reply.

When play ended, FATA had reached 56 for no loss in their second innings to lead Karachi by 161 runs with all wickets intact.

LAHORE v SIALKOT

Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain made an immediate impact for Sialkot, returning figures of 14-3-42-4 as Lahore were bowled out for 235 after resuming their first innings at 38 for two in reply to Sialkot’s 222.

Lahore were in trouble at 141 for eight before Haseeb ur Rehman showcased his batting skills at No.9 to top-score with 40. He added 77 runs for the ninth wicket with fast bowler Mohammad Abbas (37 not out). With Lahore 218 for nine, Abbas ensured his side edged past Sialkot’s total by adding 17 runs for the last wicket with Ahmed Bashir (12).

Apart from Haseeb and Abbas, Lahore’s other notable scorers were Junaid Ali (35), Saad Nasim (36), Tayyab Tahir (33) and Abid Ali (27). The other Sialkot bowler to impress was Athar Mehmood, who took three for 47.

Sialkot, trailing by 13 runs on the first innings, finished the second day at 29 for no wicket. Mohammad Huraira was batting on 20 and Azan Awais on nine.

BAHAWALPUR v PESHAWAR

Bahawalpur fast bowler Imran Randhawa added one more wicket on Sunday morning to complete his fourth career five-wicket haul in an innings, while Sofiyan Moqim picked up two more wickets to finish with four. However, their gallant efforts were not enough to prevent Peshawar from securing a handy 147-run first-innings lead.

Peshawar, resuming at 125 for five in reply to Bahawalpur’s 131, were dismissed for 278 – thanks to a 67-run seventh-wicket stand between Mohammad Haris (70) and Niaz Khan (61), followed by a 42-run eighth-wicket partnership between Niaz and Sofiyan Moqim (37).

Haris, resuming on 33, made 70 off 115 balls with nine fours, while Waqar Ahmed added six to his overnight score to finish on 71. Niaz’s 61 came off 47 balls with nine fours and a six, while Sofiyan’s 22-ball 37 included seven fours and a six.

At stumps, Bahawalpur had reached 218 for seven, erasing the deficit and leading Peshawar by 71 runs.

Mubasir Khan followed up his 48 not out in the first innings with 64 (93b, 7×4), while Saad Khan scored 61 (111b, 9×4). Mohammad Junaid (17) and Imran Randhawa (16) will resume Bahawalpur’s second innings on Monday.

For Peshawar, Iftikhar Ahmed took three wickets.

ISLAMABAD v ABBOTTABAD

Islamabad opener Shamyl Hussain struck his second successive century, but Abbottabad tightened their grip at the Marghzar Cricket Ground. Abbottabad added 62 runs to their overnight 375 for five to post 437 before bowling Islamabad out for 228.

After securing a massive 208-run first-innings lead, Abbottabad closed the second day at 45 for one, extending their advantage to 253 runs.

Abbottabad’s Yasir Khan, who started the day at 173, went on to make 185, while Khalid Usman added 31. For Islamabad, Mohammad Nadeem (3-83) and Mohammad Musa (2-47) were among the wickets.

Islamabad’s reply was led by left-handed opener Shamyl Hussain, who scored a fine 92-ball 100 with 12 fours and four sixes. When he became the fifth batter dismissed at 151, the remaining batters could add only 77 runs, conceding a big lead to Abbottabad.

For Abbottabad, left-arm fast bowler Israr Hussain took four for 71, while Aqib Khan and Mohammad Adil picked up two wickets each.

MULTAN v FAISALABAD

Multan’s frontline batters contributed evenly to put their side in a commanding position, closing the second day at 445 for seven after resuming on 85 for one in reply to Faisalabad’s 212.

Arafat Minhas was unbeaten on 82 from 104 balls with 13 fours, while Imran Rafiq made 70 off 128 balls (8×4), Waqar Hussain hit 67 off 114 balls (13×4), Sharoon Siraj scored 64 off 89 balls (11×4), and Bismillah Khan struck 47 off 52 balls (4×4, 3×6).

For Faisalabad, fast bowler Shahid Ali took three for 102 and left-arm pacer Jahandad Khan bagged two for 95.

Multan lead Faisalabad by 233 runs with three first-innings wickets remaining.
