LAHORE: Peshawar notched up their second victory in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy when they defeated Bahawalpur by eight wickets with a day to spare in third-round action at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium on Monday.

Bahawalpur, trailing by 145 runs on the first innings and resuming the penultimate day at 218 for seven, were dismissed for 261, with Mohammad Junaid scoring 35 and Imran Randhawa 28. Off-spinner Iftikhar Ahmed added two wickets to his three from Sunday to finish with figures of 5-52.

Peshawar then achieved the 116-run target for the loss of two wickets, with Aamir Barki smashing six fours and five sixes in a 51-ball 71 not out.

MULTAN V FAISALABAD

Multan were in sight of a comfortable victory after Faisalabad, following on 339 runs behind, reached 223 for five at the close of play at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. Faisalabad still need 116 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

Asim Ali Nasir was batting on 85, while Awais Zafar (41), Atiq ur Rehman (37), and Irfan Khan Niazi (20) were the other notable contributors. For Multan, Ali Usman took 2 for 54.

Earlier, Multan resumed their first innings at 445 for seven and declared at 551 for nine. Arafat Minhas, who started the day on 82, remained unbeaten on 152 — an innings that came off 163 balls and included 22 fours and three sixes. It was his maiden first-class century.

Ali Usman, resuming on 33, made 63 from 110 balls with 11 fours.

LAHORE V SIALKOT

Sialkot’s Mohsin Riaz scored an unbeaten century while Mohammad Huraira, Ashir Mahmood, and Ayaz Tasawar struck half-centuries to set Lahore a challenging 390-run target. When play ended at the Diamond Cricket Ground, Lahore were 18 for one.

Mohsin followed his 76 in the first innings with 100 not out off 99 balls, featuring 15 fours and one six, as Sialkot declared their second innings at 402 for six after starting the day at 29 without loss.

Huraira missed a century by 10 runs, dismissed for 90 off 157 balls with 16 fours, while Ashir Mahmood contributed 79 from 110 balls with 12 fours and a six. Ayaz Tasawar completed his second fifty of the match with 59 (78b, 6×4, 1×6) after scoring 52 in the first innings.

For Lahore — who held a 13-run first-innings lead (235 vs 222) — fast bowler Ubaid Shah claimed 3 for 126.

ISLAMABAD V ABBOTTABAD

Hamza Waheed scored an unbeaten century and opener Shamyl Hussain followed up his first-innings hundred with 81 to keep Islamabad’s hopes alive against Abbottabad at the Marghzar Cricket Ground.

Set a 524-run target, Islamabad reached 234 for two at stumps, needing another 290 runs for an unlikely victory.

Hamza’s 112 not out came from 107 balls, laced with 15 fours and three sixes, while Shamyl struck 12 fours and two sixes in an 84-ball 81. Hammad Khan (27 not out) will resume the chase with Hamza on Tuesday.

Earlier, Abbottabad — who had secured a 209-run first-innings lead — declared their second innings at 314 for nine after resuming at 45 for one. Key contributions came from Fakhar Zaman (74), Ahmed Khan (57 not out), Yasir Khan (56), and Mohammad Bilal (54).

Jawad Ali took 3 for 126 for Islamabad, while Mohammad Nadeem bagged 2 for 75.

FATA V KARACHI

FATA were eyeing victory over Karachi at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium after reducing the 20-time former champions to 67 for four in pursuit of 296.

Earlier, FATA, having gained a 105-run first-innings lead, began their second innings at 56 without loss and were bowled out for 190. Openers Mohammad Usman (56) and Mohammad Farooq (54) added 74 runs before the collapse.

Left-arm spinner Mohammad Asghar (4-28) and Saqib Khan (4-47) shared eight wickets to give Karachi a slim chance of survival.
