Naseem Shah begins rehab at NCA

Fast bowler Naseem Shah has began what the Pakistan Cricket Board called the ‘final stage’ of his rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy today under the watchful eyes of a strength and condition coach, a physiotherapist and a doctor. He is currently doing light exercises and partial bowling practice and is expected to begin batting from Thursday, a release from the PCB further added. The 20-year-old fast bowler had to miss the 50-over World Cup in India in October and November and is out of the national side’s contention till the five-match away T20I series against New Zealand in late January.Naseem was snapped by PSL team Islamabad United from Quetta Gladiators in a trade deal last week. There is no indication whether the fast bowler will be fully fit ahead of the ninth edition of the PSL, which is expected to run from mid-February till mid-March.Naseem’s workload management, however, is expected to dominate the discourse in the months ahead with the T20 World Cup slated for the summer of 2024. Pakistan, after the PSL, will host New Zealand for five T20Is and travel to Ireland and England for two-match and four-match T20I series, respectively.
