LAHORE: Promising batters — Karachi’s Mirza Saad Baig and Omair Bin Yousuf, Lahore’s Ali Zaryab Asif, and Islamabad’s duo of Hammad Khan and Rizwan Ali — dominated the second day’s play in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy second-round action on Monday.

Among the bowlers, Lahore’s Mohammad Ramiz (six for 144), Multan’s Faisal Akram (five for 113), and Sialkot’s Mohammad Ali (five for 47) shared the honours.

KARACHI v MULTAN

Saad Baig scored 154 and Omair Bin Yousuf 137 as the pair added 262 runs for the second wicket to help Karachi post 433 in reply to Multan’s 260 at the Marghzar Cricket Stadium. Trailing by 173 runs on the first innings, Multan had reached 12 for no loss at stumps.

Saad’s 196-ball innings, spanning 273 minutes, included 21 fours and one six, while Omair struck 16 fours and a six in his 198-ball knock. No.8 batter Saqib Khan contributed 54, and Ramiz Aziz chipped in with 46 to put Karachi in a commanding position.

For Multan, left-arm spinner Faisal Akram returned impressive figures of 20-2-113-5, while Kashif Ali and Arafat Minhas picked up two wickets each.

Multan need another 161 runs to avoid an innings defeat.

LAHORE v ABBOTTABAD

Lahore’s Ali Zaryab Asif, a highly talented batter and one of the country’s emerging stars, was in excellent touch, reaching 106 not out in Lahore’s 232 for two in reply to Abbottabad’s 365. Ali faced 176 balls and struck 12 fours and a six, adding 145 runs for the third wicket with Hussain Talat, who was unbeaten on 68 from 106 balls with 10 fours.

Earlier, Abbottabad, resuming at 273 for seven at the Diamond Cricket Ground, were bowled out for 365. No.8 batter Khalid Usman top-scored with a 115-ball 78, hitting eight fours and three sixes.

Lahore’s Mohammad Ramiz added one more wicket to finish with figures of 37.2-3-144-6, while Saad Nasim picked up three for 23.

Lahore trail Abbottabad by 133 runs on the first innings with eight wickets remaining.

BAHAWALPUR v ISLAMABAD

Islamabad’s Hammad Khan scored 172 and Rizwan Ali hit an unbeaten 101 to put their side in a position of strength against Bahawalpur. Hammad struck 10 fours in his 310-ball innings, while Rizwan hit eight fours and two sixes as the pair added 199 runs for the sixth wicket. Islamabad declared their first innings at 541 for six, having resumed the day at 344 for five.

At stumps, Bahawalpur were 124 for three in their first innings, with Saad Khan (34) and Muhammad Alamgeer (17) at the crease. Opener Muhammad Faizan Zafar contributed 39, while Kaleem Dil took two wickets for 26 runs.

FAISALABAD v SIALKOT

Sialkot reached 189 for five in reply to Faisalabad’s 255 at stumps at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium. Faisalabad, resuming their first innings at 203 for five, managed to add only 52 runs to their overnight total.

Sialkot fast bowler Mohammad Ali took three of the remaining five wickets to finish with figures of five for 47, while Athar Mehmood grabbed three for 74.

Sialkot’s reply revolved around Azan Awais (65), Muhammad Hurraira (34), Aashar Mehmood (22), and Ayaz Tasawar (22). For Faisalabad, Mudassir Zunair was the pick of the bowlers with two for 51.

PESHAWAR v FATA

FATA gained a 40-run first-innings lead against Peshawar, who were 59 for one in their second innings at stumps at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

After Peshawar were dismissed on Sunday for 271, FATA resumed their first innings at 60 for no loss and were bowled out for 311. Their batting was dominated by opener Mohammad Farooq, who scored 90 from 65 balls with 15 fours and three sixes. Muhammad Waseem Khan and Rehan Afridi contributed 41 runs each.

For Peshawar, off-spinner Iftikhar Ahmed took three for 19, fast bowler Abuzar bagged three for 95, and Muhammad Amir Khan claimed two for 56.

Peshawar are 19 runs ahead in their second innings with nine wickets in hand.
