LAHORE: Fast bowler Muhammad Amir Khan took five for 72 as Peshawar carved out a narrow 17-run victory over FATA on the fourth and final day of their second-round Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Chasing 256 for an outright win and resuming the day at 51 for two, FATA slumped from 125 for three to 152 for eight. At that stage, a rearguard fightback by No.10 batter Zahid Mehmood, who struck a 51-ball 42 with eight fours, almost carried his side home. But when Zahid became the last batter to fall — dismissed by Amir — FATA were all out for 238, falling 17 runs short of victory.

Apart from Zahid, No.3 batter Muhammad Salman Khan kept FATA in the hunt with a fine 72. Resuming on 20, he hit 10 fours in a 127-ball knock. Together with Mohammad Wasim Khan (23), Salman added 69 runs for the fourth wicket before FATA lost five wickets for 26 runs.

No.6 batter Mohammad Sarwar Afridi was the other notable contributor with 40.

Amir, who had dismissed both openers on Tuesday evening, added the scalp of Afridi and later ended the lower-order resistance by removing Shahid Aziz (8) and Zahid Mehmood. Iftikhar Ahmed and Sofyan Moqim also chipped in with two wickets each for 30 and 32 runs, respectively.

ABBOTTABAD v LAHORE

Ahmed Khan scored a timely and much-needed century, while Fakhar Zaman and Khalid Hussain hit half-centuries to help Abbottabad hold Lahore to a draw at the Diamond Cricket Ground. Trailing by 135 runs on the first innings and resuming at 35 for two, Abbottabad were bowled out for 377 in their second innings.

Set a 242-run target, Lahore were one without loss when the match was called off.

No.6 batter Ahmed Khan top-scored with 104 off 148 balls, hitting 11 fours and three sixes. Fakhar Zaman made an invaluable 81 off 99 balls with 10 fours and three sixes, while No.8 batter Usman Hussain followed up his first-innings 78 with 71 from 72 balls, striking 10 fours and a six.

Some useful partnerships aided Abbottabad’s recovery. Fakhar and Mohammad Arif (26) added 86 runs for the second wicket after both openers had departed without scoring. Mohammad Suleman (33) added 62 runs for the fourth wicket, while the most crucial and match-saving stand was for the seventh wicket — 146 runs between Ahmed Khan and Khalid Usman.

For Lahore, Mohammad Ramiz returned figures of 30.3-1-168-4, Mohammad Abbas picked up three for 43, and Saad Nasim took two for 49.

SIALKOT v FAISALABAD

No.4 batter Atiq-ur-Rehman stroked a fighting and match-saving century to help Faisalabad deny Sialkot a victory at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium. Atiq scored 143 off 179 balls with 18 fours and a six as Sialkot, trailing by 161 runs on the first innings and resuming the day at 38 for two, finished on 346 for six.

Atiq added 38 runs for the third wicket with Faham-ul-Haq (36), 76 runs for the fourth with Irfan Khan Niazi (39), 115 for the fifth with Awais Zafar (59), and 63 for the sixth with Ali Shan (32).

Usama Mir took three for 82 for Sialkot.

ISLAMABAD v BAHAWALPUR

Islamabad secured first-innings lead points against Bahawalpur as their match at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium petered out into a high-scoring draw.

In reply to Islamabad’s 541 for six declared, Bahawalpur were bowled out for 508 after resuming the final day at 463 for six. When stumps were drawn, Islamabad were 221 for three, with opener Shamyl Hussain unbeaten on 123 off 175 balls, featuring 12 fours and two sixes.

Saad Khan, who was 204 overnight, was dismissed after scoring 215 — an innings that came off 308 balls and included 25 fours and a six. Mohammad Imran Randhawa, resuming on 51, made 58, adding 124 runs for the seventh wicket with Saad.

For Islamabad, Musa Khan (three for 68), Kaleem Dil (three for 74), and Jawad Ali (three for 144) shared the wickets.
