South Africa Whitewash Pakistan

South Africa comfortably defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the second Test at Newlands on Monday, chasing down a modest target of 58 runs to clinch the series 2-0.

Captain Shan Masood’s valiant 145, supported by Babar Azam’s 81 and Mohammad Rizwan’s crucial 41, helped Pakistan avoid the embarrassment of an innings defeat. Despite their efforts, Pakistan’s second-innings total of 478 only delayed the inevitable as the Proteas wrapped up the game early on Day 4.

Pakistan resumed their second innings on Day 4 at 213/1, still trailing South Africa by 208 runs. Shan Masood led from the front, crafting a gritty century to hold the innings together. Nightwatchman Khurram Shahzad managed 18 runs before being dismissed by Marco Jansen early in the morning session.

Masood and Babar Azam formed a solid partnership, with Babar contributing an elegant 81 off 139 balls. Agha Salman chipped in with 48, while Rizwan’s quick 41 bolstered the lower order. However, South Africa’s relentless bowling attack, led by Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj, ensured wickets fell at regular intervals, preventing Pakistan from building a match-saving lead.

Pakistan’s efforts meant South Africa had to bat again, but the target of 58 posed no challenge. Openers Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee wasted no time, taking just 11 overs to chase down the target without losing a wicket.
