Rizwan named new captain

In a press conference held in Lahore on Sunday, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi announced that wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Rizwan has been appointed as the new captain of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team. All-rounder Salman Ali Agha will take on the role of vice-captain.

Recently, Babar Azam had stepped down from his leadership position. Addressing speculation about the reasons behind Babar’s choice, Naqvi clarified, “No one asked Babar to leave the captaincy. He reached out to me and expressed that he didn’t wish to continue in the captain’s role. Babar is an invaluable asset to our team.”

The press conference also addressed the decision to drop opener Fakhar Zaman from the team. Naqvi highlighted that Fakhar’s recent tweet questioning the PCB’s management over Babar’s exclusion from the second and third Tests was a contributing factor, along with fitness issues. “There is the tweet issue definitely, combined with ongoing fitness issues, led to his omission. His show-cause notice is still pending,” Naqvi added.
