Hasan Ali stars as Peshawar Zalmi see off Sultans
The Pakistan Super League’s leading wicket-taker, Hasan Ali, showed his class once more on Sunday, claiming figures of 4 for 17 and taking the all-important wicket of the in-form James Vince.
Hasan’s effort with the ball was backed up by Peshawar’s batsmen with Imam-ul-Haq’s fifty anchoring the innings before some almighty ball-striking by Kieron Pollard led his side to victory in Sharjah.
Electing to field first, Zalmi kept the Sultans below 150 despite a rapid half-century from Johnson Charles (53 off 34).
Hasan struck with the game’s second ball, clean bowling Englishman Vince – the third time Ali has taken a wicket in his first over in this year’s competition.
Umar Siddiq and Charles added 80 for the second wicket but when Charles fell to Umaid Asif, the run rate slowed.
Hasan picked up three wickets in the 19th over and three more Sultans wickets fell in the 20th as Multan collapsed from 140 for 4 to 145 all out in the space of two overs.
Imam was backed up by Dawid Malan (38) before Pollard smashed Mohammad Irfan for four consecutive sixes in the 18th over, leaving Peshawar needing just seven from the final two overs.
Peshawar’s win moves them into second place in the table, with three wins from five. Meanwhile Sultan sit in fifth with one victory from their five matches so far.
