Former Pakistan women’s captain Bismah Maroof has announced her retirement from international cricket. The journey saw her grace the field in 276 games throughout her career.
“I have decided to retire from the game I love the most,” Maroof said in a statement released by PCB on Thursday. “It has been an incredible journey, filled with challenges, victories, and unforgettable memories.”
The former captain debuted for Pakistan at the age of 15 in 2006 in a one day international against India.
Maroof, an accomplished allrounder, showcased her left-handed batting skills accumulating an impressive total of 6,262 runs, including 33 half-centuries, along with notable performances, including three ODI scores nearing the century mark. As a right-arm leg break bowler, Maroof has a remarkable 80 wickets to her name.
In September 2017, Maroof was appointed as the captain for all formats of the Pakistan cricket team. Notably, she boasted the highest win/loss ratio among all regular players who led the country in One-Day Internationals (1.000) and T20 Internationals (0.843), underscoring her effectiveness as a captain.
In 2021, Maroof took a break to embrace motherhood and welcome her daughter.
“The support from the PCB has been invaluable, particularly in implementing the first ever parental policy for me, which enabled me to represent my country at the highest level while being a mother,” Maroof said expressing her gratitude for the parental policy.
