Daunting challenge awaits Nida Dar’s Pakistan in England
Pakistan and England are meeting in a bilateral women’s T20I series for the first time since 2019 from tomorrow. Birmingham’s Edgbaston Cricket Ground will play host to the series opener, while the second and third games will be played at the County Ground, Northampton, and Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds on 17 and 19 May.
Pakistan enter this series after suffering a crushing series defeat to West Indies at home. England, on the other hand, are buoyed by a comprehensive 4-1 series win in New Zealand.
Leading the home side will be Heather Knight, supported by standout players in Nat Sciver-Brunt, Alice Capsey, and Sophie Ecclestone. Pakistan, meanwhile, are without their most successful T20I batter in Bismah Maroof, who called time on her international career last month, and will hope that their regulars in Aliya Riaz, Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, and Muneeba Ali Siddiqui show up.
The two teams have faced off in 15 T20Is, with England securing victory in 14 encounters, leaving Pakistan with just one win.
The last T20I series between the two teams in 2019 saw England Women sweeping Pakistan Women aside with a 3-0 whitewash.
