Aqib Javed named interim red-ball head coach
PCB has appointed Aqib Javed as the interim red-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. This announcement comes in the wake of Jason Gillespie’s resignation from the role.
Aqib Javed, a former Pakistan fast bowler and an experienced coach, will take charge immediately. His first assignment will be the crucial two-match Test series against South Africa as part of Pakistan’s ongoing all-format tour.
Jason Gillespie’s resignation has stirred controversy, with sources revealing that his decision stemmed from dissatisfaction with the PCB’s management. According to ESPN Cricinfo, Gillespie was particularly upset after the PCB opted not to renew high-performance red-ball coach Tim Nielsen’s contract. Gillespie was reportedly not consulted or informed prior to the decision.
Earlier, Gillespie was removed from the Test side’s selection panel, leaving him feeling relegated to the role of a “matchday analyst,” a position he claimed was far removed from his original mandate.
