3rd ODI Preview: Australian Lineup to Miss Key Players for series Decider
The series between Pakistan and Australia stands finely poised as both teams head into the 3rd and final ODI with one victory apiece. The third and final ODI, will take place on Sunday, 10th November 2024, at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Pakistan leveled the series in the second ODI, while Australia will look to get their batting in top gear after a quieter performance in the last game.
For the third ODI, the Australian lineup will look slightly different as several of their Test players will be absent. The Test regulars in the ODI squad, including captain Pat Cummins along with Test vice-captain Steve Smith, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Marnus Labuschagne, will sit out this final game to begin preparations for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against India. Josh Inglis will take on the captaincy role for the first time, leading a modified Australian side.
This absence of key players gives emerging talents a chance to shine, with newcomers Xavier Bartlett, Spencer Johnson, and Josh Philippe joining the ODI squad for this crucial series decider.
After a solid chase in the second ODI, Pakistan enters the series decider with confidence. The opening duo of Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique played match-winning roles in the second game, showcasing their ability to take on the Australian attack.
The Optus Stadium in Perth is known for its pace-friendly wicket, which generally provides bounce and lateral movement. The fast bowlers from both sides will be eager to take full advantage of the conditions.
